Diagnostic medicine - thoroughness through time
Everbody has experienced this situation: After waiting for your appointment in the waiting area you get a few minutes with the doctor to explain complex symptoms. That is by far not enough time to fully understand a patient. To reach a diagnosis, patients oftentimes have to visit multiple specialists and dignoses are delayed. That is by no means your doctors fault: Keeping a private practice running ist an extremely costly endavour and the insurance does not adequately compensate for the time it takes to get to know a patient. In addition, most colleagues have to treat more patients than they have time for. Therefore the decision has to be made to either shorten the time for each patient or to outright refuse treatment to patients. Neither is a good option, but turning patients away is the arguably more unethical of the two.
